I Seriously Missed Out
Last year, the flurry of posts left me feeling left out. What were they doing over there? They were accomplishing so much. I felt like I was just spinning my wheels.
I knew I had missed out the moment I declined taking the Stretch Yourself Challenge last year. But I didn’t know it was for me even though I felt a pull to take it. I made all the right excuses:
- I’m too busy
- It costs too much right now
- I can’t do it
- And on and on
But yet people were on fire, posting about their achievements and what they’ve done. I felt that I knew I should have signed up for the Stretch Yourself Challenge. When I took a look at the Self Study Challenge Guide, I knew I should have signed up. I totally missed out.
Joined This Year
This year, I signed up for the Stretch Yourself Challenge LIVE. I felt compelled to do it. Finally, I could be part of the action. I waited for the day when they announced which team I was on. Getting in on Team Shine, I realized this is my time to shine!
I chose the challenge to create a Facebook Live Series of four videos. But, my goal to do four videos per each of my three websites quickly morphed into more. I realized the plans and goals I have this month also meant I could get points for other things. While in the challenge, I also completed a product for a giveaway and two bundles, plus completed extra credit assignments.
The fire had been lit inside of me!
I Set My Goal
My goal was to start doing Facebook lives and to start doing them on a schedule. But I had to get past that first big hump of actually doing them! I finally accomplished that goal yesterday when I did my first ever Facebook live. It felt great!
But bumps in the road still came up…
Then I got an email from a viewer who said they could hardly hear me on the video. Well, that just tells me that I might not have changed my microphone to the one I was using at the time or need to change my volume settings. At the time, it wasn’t something I thought of so I just went live! But next time I will be sure to check on those things to ensure better volume.
Instead of letting that stop me, I re-checked my goal and I still feel excited to finish the rest of the three videos for each of the different websites.
I am excited! I am finally Facebook Live-ing it!
But what got me over the hump was taking the challenge. I had planned to do a Facebook Live for months… and I kept putting it off with the same excuses I used above.
But enough was enough.
Even though my busy days have even conspired against me to keep me in the loop of excuses and to keep my time constrained from doing Facebook lives, I overcame this hurdle.
I’m officially an overcomer, as Mandisa sings.
Take the SYC – It’s a Great Decision to Grow You and Your Business
I recommend the SYC because it got me to reach beyond those excuses I’ve had about creating Facebook lives for months. It was finally the motivation and push I needed to just start doing Facebook lives.
And I had fun doing them!
Plus, the interaction in the forum with other business owners in the challenge is fun and motivating. When I posted that I did a Facebook live, I had several challenge members saying, “way to go!” It’s fun to hear that and to celebrate my accomplishment for a moment.
- Do it for your goals.
- Do it for yourself.
- Do it to get ahead (maybe even ahead of your competition in business)
- Do it to overcome limits, challenges, blocks, excuses, and anything else standing in your way
- Do it because you feel compelled to
- Do it if that still small voice says DO IT
More Challenges to Meet, More Growing to Do
There are still challenges in the SYC that I want to tackle next time to finally get over myself and do them. Having the support of Kelly and other challenge members during the process is helpful to get past any fear and feel motivated to rack up the points to use for the prizes. With the people being motivating, the challenge being motivating, and the prices being motivating, it’s easy to say HELL YES to doing the Stretch Yourself Challenge.
So be sure to be on the lookout for the next challenge and choose which one speaks to you the most to do!
Or, go ahead and get the Self Study guide and get to doing now!
I’m listening to the video now!
I love this post, especially how you share your regret for skipping last year. Community is compelling isn’t it?
You are rocking it this year for sure – I’m loving your updates and look forward to all of the long term results β€
Yes, community is definitely compelling! Thank you, Kelly! π <3
I love how you say just do it! Great motivation. Itβs great that your doing Facebook Lives. I need to start doing them too.
Thank you, Amanda! I always loved that slogan by Nike. I can’t help but say it sometimes. π
Your tenacity and willingness to grow is amazing! I love how you didn’t let the fact that your first Facebook Live had glitches stop you from doing it again. You recognized the issue, adjusted, and did it again!
I am so excited you are in the challenge this year! Keep stretching!
Thank you so much, Benecia! Appreciate you!
Gabrielle, I’m so happy you signed up for the SYC live. I love that you decided to do a Facebook Live series. You have accomplished so much during this challenge, videos, giveaways, extra credit and there’s still more you’re going to do before it ends. I’m excited for your accomplishments and for the next chapter in the evolution of your business. To your success!
Thank you, Tara! Yes, if I can keep up with it all. Thanks for your encouragement. π
Love how you didn’t want to feel left out but are also so intentional with your choices in stretching yourself this year! And your facebook lives are shining towards other challenges. What a great way to embrace and grow, Gabby!
Oh yes, definitely! I know next year I have to stretch more and reach that summit or group coaching challenge. π
Great post Gabby… You have accomplished a lot this time around!!
Thank you, Fran!
So glad you decided to join the challenge this year, Gabby! You’ve been rockin’ n’ rollin π I like how you started the post by talking about how you missed out last year. Way to not let glitches stall you and to keep going and stretching!
Thank you, Tish! I’m so glad to have taken the challenge to grow and stretch more, rockin’ and rollin’ and what not.
Congratulations for being an overcomer. Your story of taking on a challenge this year after the regret of missing last year is inspiring. Thank you for being a bit vulnerable with us about one of the feedback emails you received and how you turned that around by realizing that you need to adjust and keep moving forward. Keep up the great work by continuing to stretch and grow.
It’s so much fun to grow out of our comfort zones! I like getting feedback from customers. It tells me they were trying to listen even though my sound was low. But now I know what to do and can move forward. I’m glad to see what you’re up to too, Lynn, with your summit coming up. π
OMG, you so nailed it with the description of feeling left off the Stretch Yourself Challenge train last year. Community and buzz is sooo powerful.
I did my first Facebook live series last year and haven’t done any since! That’s about to change, though, with the power of the SYC. I realize it’s important to keep doing them and the anxiety and nervousness disappears.
Keep stretching and growing. Can’t wait to see TeamShine take all the prizes this year! π
YES! Go, Team Shine! Yes, definitely about communty and buzz, and I love hearing how the challenge reinvigorated you to pick back up the Facebook lives. Way to stretch and grow too, Melissa! π
I’m glad that you were able to join in this year’s stretch challenge and you’re making strides despite some bumps. You’ve made your breakthrough with FB lives. Congratulations with that! Beyond that is your attitude of not giving up and learning from your mistakes. I’m sure you’ll go a long way and can see more success to come. I’m cheering for you!
Thank you, Maria! Sometimes mistakes knock me back but I’m glad to get back up again too. I appreciate you!
I love how you talk about the fact that even being called to do this challenge doesn’t ensure a smooth path. Stretching is not without it’s bumps and pitfalls along the way, but that just makes the successes sweeter when they come. Congrats on facing down your excuses, I know how huge that is!
So true, Teresa! I am enjoying going down the winding road and doing even better overcoming challenges.
I love this post, Gabby! Last year was my first year in the challenge. And, I actually thought, “What are other people thinking about this who are not in the challenge?” I’m so glad you chose to join this year and really stretched! You inspired me β€.
“
Glad to be in it with you, Luanna, and to hear how you are stretching too!
Gabby, I LOVE THIS! π I am so sorry that you missed last year, but I cannot be any happier that you are going for it this year! You are so right! Do it! Just do it! Last year I went for it and truly changed everything. I am working on it each day again this year. I cannot wait to see what we accomplish this year. I am cheering you on! π
Yay for you, Cindy! I enjoyed reading what you’ve accomplished too. Yes, just do it!
Facebook Live was the challenge I tackled last year, and it sounds like you are already learning about all the little tech details that also have to be monitored. Sounds like you are off to a great start, good luck :).
Yes, ha ha. It isn’t the first time that techie stuff has happened. I have to get in the mindset of expecting it. π
What an inspiration. Yes, you are an over comer and it was your anchor in that belief, on a subconscious level, that kept you moving forward. I’ve never heard of this artist … powerful words … I’m now a fan. So thank you for introducing her to me.
I know that you will continue to grow and up level yourself in your life and business because you’ve accepted that failure is part of the success formula. Keep. Stretching.
Thank you, Adalia! Your story inspired me too. I’m glad you’ve now heard of Mandisa through me. She was on one of the earlier “American Idol” shows and she just blew me away with her voice. Hope to hear good things about you reaching your goals too!
Congrats on being brave and tackling the Facebook Live challenge! I can SO relate to it not being perfect but needing to jump in and just do it! I recorded a few of my first Live videos sideways!! Still learning but like you – moving forward.
You are accomplishing SO much -I’m glad you took the leap and joined the community this year. Just a heads up – it can be addicting (and I look forward to seeing you again in the challenge next year!). Go Gabby Go!
Ha ha ha! I think that every time I go to do something, it is definitely never perfect the first or even 50th time I do it. π Yes, let’s keep moving forward. Thank you, Dr. Renee!
I hate missing out too. I like that you use last yearβs experience of wishing you had joined and seeing everyone so excited to make sure you participated this year. And youβre rockinβ it now. And the video you included – love it!
Thank you, Kelly! Yes, so glad I joined in this year. Now I’m part of the flurry of communication when I get the chance to be. π
FOMO is real. I couldn’t miss out on any future challenges now that I’ve rocked the last 2…soon to be 3. It’s amazing how motivating it is to see everyone stretch and know they are all freaking out a little about doing their challenge as well.
Yay, cheering you on, Val! Yes, ha ha, those freak out moments are real. I’m kinda glad it isn’t just me. π
Love how you focused on “missing out” at the beginning. Enjoyed the video and how you related it to the SYC. Glad you are finding success with the challenge.
Thank you, Robin!
I’m so glad you’re here this year, Gabby! And hooray on the Lives — that’s no small feat! I remember shaking the first time I did one, and hoping no one could tell. To your continued success!
Haha, I was worried my camera would fall, I’d tip my mic over, or many more things during it. Ah, but I think we’ve learned to roll with it now.
I think this is my 3 or 4th challenge. Since it keeps growing each year, it is a completely new experience. I love it.
And with new people joining, it is a great way to experience new ideas, meeting with folks in Triads (3-way coaching sessions) and just grow, grow grow!
Having the accountability fo the community is also huge. By ‘publically’ proclaiming what our challenge is, I know I want to ‘keep my word’ so I do what I have to to geet it completed.
That’s awesome, Paul! I hear you on wanting to keep your word. I wanted to do more this challenge, but I’m focused on what I promised I would do.
Glad that the Stretch Yourself Challenge is helping you Shine! You picked something that I’m just not ready for yet, live video. It is great that there are so many challenges to choose from. I picked the ones that are perfect for where I am at in my journey. We can all be working towards our own goals together, competing but really all winning.
Awesome to hear you’re reaching your goals, Amy!
